First on our list of Edinburgh takeaways is The Pakora Bar, an eatery based on the buzzing Hanover Street which provides foodies with some gorgeous Punjabi street food to munch upon.

This family business will make you feel like part of the family too, with tremendously good homecooked dishes for everyone to enjoy.

For vegan’s there are plenty of options to dig into, the pakoras have some seriously rave reviews, as do the samosas.

If you want a taste of locality with an Indian twist, the Lamb Chilli Burger is incredible, for some spice, pair it with their famous spicy chips.

It’s arguably one of the most popular choices for Edinburgh takeaways.

Although, they’re currently moving to a new location so they’re closed for the time being, but make sure you keep up to date on their socials to find out when you can place your next takeout order.

2. The Fishmarket

If you’re in the mood for a fish & chip takeaway in Edinburgh, let’s be real who doesn’t love a chippy?

Well, The Fish Market Newhaven needs to become your go-to place.

They offer food collection and delivery through Deliveroo so you can order straight to your student flat.

Their food is a collaboration with Welch Fishmongers and the team behind the popular seafood restaurant Ondine.

Take a look at their menu and you’re bound to drool, with a proper fish & chip meal to sole goujons, lobster with garlic butter, and even mussels – yes please!

This isn’t just your usual chippy, with a selection of the day’s fresh seafood on ice on offer if you really want to treat yourself.

We haven’t even told you the best part, they’re open 7 days a week so no matter when you want a takeout, they’ll be ready and waiting.

3. Pure Pizza

Open until midnight, this place is perfect for any student night owls out there!

Available on Deliveroo and Just Eat, they have some amazing gluten-free and vegan pizzas on the best sourdough.

You can craft your own sourdough 12” pizza with a choice of 1 to 4 toppings, mozzarella, and tomato sauce.

They also have create your own gluten-free options, vegan cheese gluten-free, vegetarian and halal!

All of their 12” pizzas come with mozzarella and tomato sauce, with loads of toppings including broccoli royale, beef royale and chicken royale.

Kebab Mahal is a fresh Indian takeaway in Edinburgh that has been a popular contender on the takeaway scene for over 30 years – they must be good right?

They’re well known for their yummy halal traditional tandoori and curry dishes, plus some absolutely banging kebabs.

You can choose between the likes of a Shish Kofte or a Doner Kebab or even a Chicken Rogan Josh.

You’ve gotta try some of their Tandra Chicken to accompany your meal – it’s literally mouthwatering.

You’ll be spoilt for choice at this eatery, so go on, why not treat yourself?

They offer a collection and delivery service on their website, where you can have a sneak peek at their menu too!

If you’re in the mood for a takeaway after a long day at university, U Rice Sushi has a whole bunch of tasty and authentic Japanese and Chinese dishes for you to try.

Choose from beef, pork, and duck dishes with a fabulous choice of Japanese & Korean dishes and vegetable dishes.

We’d highly recommend the roast duck in chilli sauce if you like a bit of spice, the chow meins are also a really popular choice too!

You can order on Just Eat, or choose to collect and there’s a £9.50 minimum order, so it might be worth ordering with a couple of friends.

U Rice Sushi

6. Cutting Chaii

Cutting Chaii is an authentic Indian takeaway in Edinburgh which is quite unique because it serves small tapas-style plates.

Their aim is to take customers back to the style of old Bombay Irani café’s to experience the classic Indian food experience.

It’s kind of like Mowlgi, but think of an independent family-run restaurant.

We have to recommend their Gunpowder chicken, Salli Bolti and their Chilli chips – mmm they’re literally too die for!

They recommend picking between 2-3 dishes per person due to the size of the plates, but it’s up to you how hungry you are.

For vegan’s and vegetarians, don’t worry! Cutting Chai have some fabulous small plate options including butter paneer, chilli paneer and jackfruit biryani.

The best part is, you can also order a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks if you fancy.

7. Butta Burger

If you’re in the mood for a big juicy burger, you’ve come to the right place that’s for sure!

Butta Burger became a takeaway sensation during the pandemic and have since grown into a massive food-hub in the Scottish Capital, with over 12k followers on Instagram.

This Edinburgh takeaway offer tasty food from classic beef burgers to chicken sandwiches to vegan and veggie burgers.

Don’t worry if you don’t fancy a burger, because they also have chicken wings, chicken nuggets and even truffle fries!

For something different, we’d definitely recommend the Smokey Q with two smashed beef patties, smoked cheddar, homemade jalapeño relish, homemade BBQ sauce.

Don’t forget to try some of their Homemade sauces like their Chicken Gravy Mayo, they’re SO good let us tell you that!

8. Quinn’s Cafe

Quinn’s Cafe in the heart of the City Centre has secured the number 1 place for the best Edinburgh takeaways on TripAdvisor so, it would be silly not to include them within our guide!

Who doesn’t love a good old English brekkie to start off their day? Or to order on the weekend when you’re hanging.

You won’t believe it, but they offer brekkie ALL DAY long so you don’t need to worry about waking up early.

Maccies we’re talking to you, what’s the need for that 11am breakfast finish?!

You’ve gotta give their full Scottish breakfast a try, with fried egg, two slices of bacon, sausage, black pudding, haggis, potato scone, mushrooms, baked beans and a toast or roll with butter.

Argh, we’re super jealous of all you students living in Edinburgh cos’ that sounds bloody lovely.

We must let you know though, they don’t offer a delivery service so you do have to go and collect from their cafe on West Port.

It’s worth it though, trust us!
