Student bars Nottingham

1. The Walrus

The original home of beer pong, The Walrus is a cool, dark, underground hang with neon signs lighting up the bar, a wide selection of fun cocktails that will blow your socks off and great music to drink and dance to.

There are 4 full-sized American beer pong tables here, so you understand the party vibe immediately as you walk in, and the weekly rock night for the metal heads and alternative crowd is always sure to get rowdy.

2. Bierkeller

An authentic glimpse into Oktoberfest, pick up a bratwurst and wash it down with a stein of German beer. The Bierkeller is a large party hall, a big celebration day or night, great if you’re out with a large group of mates.

There are big screens all around for you to keep an eye on the big match as you drink, and you’ll discover fantastic drink deals on most days of the week to keep you from being thirsty!

Karaoke nights, quiz nights, and a big dance-off to live Oompah bands on Fridays and Saturdays make the Bierkeller an incredible student-friendly bar in Nottingham.

 Address: 15-17 Friar Lane. NG1 6DA

3. Rescue Rooms

Famed for its intimate live music venue, that has seen the likes of Jake Bugg, The Killers, The Libertines, Stormzy, and London Grammar perform over the years, Rescue Rooms is also a great student bar in Nottingham.

Away from the live music space there is a comfortable bar and welcoming patio, so get to the bar and make the most of the daily 4-7 happy hour (cocktail hour is 7-9 daily) and get socialising.

Pressure’ Tuesdays (an indie disco) and ‘Stealth v Rescued’ Saturdays (an eclectic festival vibe from day through to night) are both club nights that are full of students, including themed rooms, 2-4-1 drinks offers and a Caribbean BBQ. Pub quiz, karaoke and an acoustic night for students fill up the rest of the week at Rescue Rooms.

4. Calluna

Some of the best bars we’ve ever been to have been difficult to find. The smaller the bar, the wilder the party in our experience. Calluna definitely fits that bill!

If you’re living in Nottingham as a student, this is a must visit. You might miss it as you walk down Forman Street but once you’re inside you’ll quickly become part of the scene, neon lights covering the walls and providing an ultra-cool vibe.

There are two bars and an outdoor terrace, but the draw here is the Calluna decks, the best House DJs outside of Ibiza spinning out the tunes as you dance away and sup on classic cocktails.

5. Pepper Rocks

A cosy cocktail bar that’s hidden away right in plain sight in the very heart of Nottingham, Pepper Rocks has quirky and colourful jungle décor over 3 floors, with comfortable sofas to relax on and loads of cocktails to explore through the daily happy hour celebrations!

Pepper Rocks is a tropical paradise and ultra-relaxed. Monday night is ‘bring your own vinyl’ night, so there could be anything playing, open mic and DJ sets take up other nights of the week and make for an exciting place to sit with friends for an evening.

They even do a pretty tasty Icelandic-style hotdog, which you must try!

Address: 12 Pepper Street. NG1 2GH

6. The Hockley Arts Club

Self-styled as a ‘creative space for social eating and drinking’, The Hockley Arts Club is a hit with students and locals alike. It is an instagrammable delight, offering three themed floors for a special night out.

Nestled away on Carlton Street, Hockley has delightful house cocktails, premium wines and spirits, and a good beer selection. A bit different from some of the other student bars in Nottingham we’d recommend, it has a vibrant atmosphere, moving up from the Scandi-inspired first floor, the sofa time and intimate booths on the second floor, and the garden on top.

Named as one of the top 40 cocktail bars in the whole of the UK, The Hockley Arts Club is a perfect date night or big celebration venue with friends – a stylish treat.

Address: 20 Carlton Street. NG1 1NN

7. Penny Lane

Free entry to a whole world of fun and games, Penny Lane is the arcade game hall you dreamed of when you were a kid.

Now, you get to play on the air hockey tables, smash the life out of the joysticks on numerous arcade games, whilst eating hot dogs and having a few drinks with your uni mates. We can think of worse ways to spend a night out at one of the student bars in Nottingham!

All you need to do is pay for some tokens and you can work through the many different games on offer. It’s such a fun place, and you can see this in the food and drinks menu – with names such as the 99 Problems but the Beach Ain’t One and Calippo cocktails, the Squad Goals jug sharer, and the Mai-Tai be Driving? mocktail for those of you after a refreshing break from the booze or those that don’t drink at all.
