It’s official everyone, today is the first day of Autumn and by now you’ve probably settled into your luxury student accommodation, made some great friends and have explored your uni city or town.

If you’re after some well-needed downtime, then check out our highlights below of the best films and TV shows new to Netflix UK this Autumn.

There’s a title for everyone to love within this guide so, don’t worry we’re sure you’ll find at least one to binge-watch!

A Jazzman’s Blues

A Jazzman’s Blue is Tyler Perry’s latest release available on Netflix as of today (Friday 23rd September).

The American drama film is set in post-World War II in South America, where a young black jazz singer leaves his hometown in search of following his dreams of becoming a famous musician.

It tells the story of a 40 yearlong love affair and hidden mysteries that spans from the 1940s to the 1980s. The film stars Joshua Boone, Amirah Vann and Solea Pfieffer.

The screenplay is the first one that Perry ever wrote 26-years ago and with his previous Netflix release’s, we’re sure this one is going to be a great watch.

Blonde 

Next up on our highlights of what’s new to Netflix UK this Autumn is Blonde, one of the highest anticipated releases of the year.

This American historical psychological drama film by Andrew Dominik tells a fictionalised portrayal of the icon Marilyn Monroe, played by Ana de Armas.

The film is based on the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates and combines fact with fiction, with a variety of real events within Norma Jeane Mortenson’s life to becoming a Hollywood icon featuring within the film.

Such as her marriage to Bucky Glazer, meeting with photographer Otto Ose, her relationship with her mother and her career with 20th Century Fox.

Whilst the film is fictional, we’re sure this reimagination of the famous star’s life will be an outstanding watch. The film is available to stream on Netflix as of today, Friday 23rd September.

 

Luckiest Girl Alive 

If you’re a thriller film lover, then you’ve gotta watch the Luckiest Girl Alive this Autumn.

The American mystery thriller by Mike Barker is based on the bestselling book of the same name and stars Mila Kunis, Finn Wittrock, Scoot McNairy, Thomas Barbusca, Jennifer Beals, and Connie Britton.

Without giving too much away, the plot of the film explores the life of Ani FaNelli, a young journalist living in New York City who is soon to marry the man of her dreams, but secrets and traumas from her past are beginning to tarnish her image as the “luckiest girl alive.”

If you want to be on the edge of your seat then get watching on Netflix on Friday, October 7th.

 

Love Is Blind (Season 3) 

The next season of Love Is Blind will be released on Wednesday 19th October and we can’t wait. If you’ve never watched it, then what are you playing at?!

The reality dating TV show hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, follows single men and women who participate in a series of blind dates with one another to try and find the one. It brings a new aspect to modern dating, as it focuses on wanting to be loved for who you are rather than your appearance.

Those on the show can only get to know each other through purpose-built “pods” where they cannot see each other. They can only meet face to face after a marriage proposal is made but, will their relationships last? You’ll have to take a watch to find out.

The addictive show is a must-watch if you’re a fan of reality telly, and the best part is you’ll have three seasons to keep you busy!

 

All Quiet on the Western Front 

The countdown is on for the film adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front by Edward Berger, which will land on Netflix UK on 28th October 2022.

This remake of a classic anti-war story by novelist Erich Maria Remarque tells the tale of a 17-year-old German boy, Paul Baumer during World War I, who voluntarily enlists in the army with his friends Albert and Muller.

The German-language film has a complete German cast and explores the horrors and grim reality of fighting on the front line within WW1 and over time shows the changing view of the young soldiers, that war is tragic for men fighting on both sides.

This powerful film is set to be one of the biggest non-English language films of the year so, if you’re after a real cinematic experience whilst in your student flat, you really need to give this a go!

 

Blockbuster (Season 1)

Next up on our highlights of what’s new to Netflix UK this Autumn is Blockbuster. Yep, really, it’s about the nostalgic film rental store we all loved as kids!

Set to release on November 3rd, this upcoming American sitcom TV series by Vanessa Ramos, follows the life of Timmy Yoon and other staff working at the only remaining Blockbuster Video store in the United States.

Starring Randall Park as Timmy and Melissa Fumero as Eliza Walker, the nostalgic yet hilarious TV show explores Blockbuster’s demise, and how one last store in Oregon fights to stay relevant.

All 10 episodes are set to be released at the same time with 30-minute-long duration, binge-watching has never been better! If you’re a fan of other American sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine-nine and The Office, we’re sure you’ll love season 1 of Blockbuster.

Enola Holmes 2 

Millie Bobby Brown hasn’t shied away from our screens this year, has she?! Well, she’s set to make her return in the second Enola Holmes film and we for one, are buzzing for this Netflix release this November.

The upcoming mystery film is based on the young adult fiction series of the same name by Nancy Springer. If you haven’t seen the first film from 2020, you’ve gotta give it a watch before the sequel is released!

Directed by Harry Bradbeer, Enola Holmes Enola Holmes takes on her first detective case, but to explore the mystery of a missing girl, she’ll need some help from her friends and her brother Sherlock.

Henry Cavill and David Thewlis play alongside Millie Bobby Brown in this upcoming title, which we’re sure will be a hit-film for the Autumn. You can stream it yourself on Netflix from November 4th.

 

The Crown (Season 5) 

We couldn’t not include the award-winning TV show The Crown on our list of what’s new to Netflix UK. The show is set to return for its fifth season this November with 10 episodes being released.

The programme follows the life and reign of the late monarch Queen Elizabeth II. As with previous seasons, the entire cast will be recast to highlight the changing of different eras and timeframes within the Queens life.

For this season, Queen Elizabeth will be played by Imelda Staunton, Prince Phillip played by Jonathan Pryce, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Princess Diana played by Elizabeth Debicki and Camilla Parker Bowles played by Olivia Williams.

The series is set to follow the John Major government years with the demise of Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage breakdown and the events that followed up to the tragic death of Diana within 1997.

With the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we’re sure that this historical drama series will be a true piece of art watched by many this November. Whilst an official date hasn’t yet been released, keep your eye out for more.

 

The Wonder 

Next within our highlights of what’s new to Netflix UK is the The Wonder, a psychological period drama film by Sebastián Lelio.

The film is set to be released on the streaming platform on November 16th and is based on the historic and gripping novel by Emma Donoghue of the same name.

Florence Pugh plays Lib Wright an English nurse trained under Florence Nightingale, who is brought to a tiny village in the Irish Midlands in 1862. She’s brought to observe a young girl Anna O’Donnell (played by Kíla Lord Cassidy) who stops eating but remains strangely alive and well.

The story takes a dark yet captivating turn, and it’s up to you to find out more upon its release.

Trust us, if you’re a fan of Netflix period drama’s you really have got to give this one a watch! Why not have a film night with your flatmates?

Outer Banks (Season 3)

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably anxiously waiting for the upcoming release of season 3 of Outer Banks.

Well, fear not it’s on the horizon with the release expected on Netflix within December 2022. Although, this hasn’t been confirmed by the platform themselves so this could change.

If you haven’t watched the drama TV show before, it tells the story of teenager John B and his three best friends who hunt for a legendary treasure linked to his father’s disappearance.

The series is set in a community in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and explores the conflict of two different societal groups The Pogues and The Kooks.

The third series of the show will follow on from the previous, where we can expect to follow the journey of John and Sarah to execute their plans of stealing the crosses and gold.

If you haven’t watched Outer Banks before, you’ve got plenty of time to watch season 1 and 2 before the upcoming release. The trailer for the third season hasn’t been released yet, but you can get to grips with what happened previously on Netflix.
