It’zzzzzz CHRISTMAAAAAAS! Well, not yet. But it is fast approaching December, AKA the festive season, so why not celebrate?

Take a minute, close your eyes and picture this scene…

It’s a crisp Thursday evening, you’re preparing to wrap up warm in your woolly hat, scarf and gloves, and you’ve left your Winter coat to warm up near the fireplace. 

You pull on your snug, fluffy socks and grab your favourite pair of boots. The key to the door unlocks and you take your first step outside, landing in a pool of icy snow. The refreshing air masks your breath as you stroll to the car. 

The drive is short, and once you exit, you’re immersed in a festive haven of fascination. From the glisten of lights on the majestic Christmas tree, all the way to the delicious smell of roasted chestnuts, this feeling is nothing like you’ve experienced before.

Once you’ve wandered through the wealth of cheery Christmas shoppers, you pay for your first cup of mulled wine and relax near a log fire…that’s it, you’ve made it. Christmas is finally here.

We know, we know. Without us letting you know to do some Christmas shopping, you’d probably have forgotten and left it until last minute – right?

If we hit the nail on the head with that one, you’re so welcome.

In all seriousness, Christmas shopping for family members, friends and loved ones is such a special time!

Especially in Liverpool, this remarkable city is littered with shopping areas for you to explore.

Liverpool One

Liverpool One is a hugely popular shopping area (over 170 to be exact), which can be found right in the city centre!

It’s home to a plethora of shops which serve many purposes, so it’s kinda faultless when it comes to Christmas time. 

From the staple store – John Lewis – all the way to high street chains such as JD, New Look and Pull and Bear, you’ll never be short of finding presents for all the family!

During the Christmas period, from the 13th December onwards, shops will be open for late night browsing until 9pm. So book a date for some festive fun, ASAP!

The Metquarter

Discover exclusive retailers in the Metquarter, Liverpool’s unique shopping experience right in the heart of the city.

This fully covered building is a firm favourite of locals, students and tourists, for its exceptional shops and luxury events it holds. 

Need some jewellery? Say It With Diamonds is a local brand offering a selection of luxurious and bespoke diamond jewellery for all budgets.

Looking for designer wear? The Metquarter is stocked with stores such as Hugo Boss, Cricket and Kurt Geiger.

St John’s

St John’s Shopping Centre has been the home of Liverpool’s shopping since 1969. 

It stocks more than 100 retailers, so don’t expect to leave empty handed…

What makes this place so great is it’s centred around a food court, perfect for picking up a quick meal to fuel the rest of the day!

2. Christmas Markets

Of course, we couldn’t really spread festive cheer without including the Liverpool Christmas Market – right?

Situated around St John’s Gardens, William Brown Street and St George’s Hall, this magical experience is not one to be missed. 

With over 40 stalls to explore, treat yourself to some chocolate covered churros and mulled wine, or take a ride on the magnificent ferris wheel.

It’s the perfect place to visit with your uni pals, and it’s suitable for all budgets!

This year, the markets will be coming to Liverpool from the 12th November until the 23rd of December 2022.

3. Liverpool Ice Festival

Fancy taking a stroll round Liverpool’s very own Winter Wonderland? If so, you need to visit the Christmas Ice Festival.

Not only is it the perfect festive fun with friends, it’s also a brilliant way to get out of your student accommodation for some fresh air.

Lace up your boots and slip n slide across the covered ice rink. If you don’t feel confident, there’s penguins dotted around the edge which you can use to help keep your balance!

Dare to brave the real ice slide? If so, let us know – we want to try it too!

All of this comes for an entry price of just £13 (what a bargain!).

If you want to have a go on some of the festive rides, they will be an extra small fee.

The Ice Festival is open daily from 19th November to 3rd January.

4. Bar Hütte

Right in the heart of the city centre, Bar Hütte is the perfect Christmas experience to take your flatmates for 2022. 

Giving off major apres ski vibes, these individual huts are equipped with cosy furniture and even a karaoke machine to get your vocals going crazy!

Not to mention there’s also curling, shuffleboard, prosecco pong, wreath making, retail stalls at Liverpool Alpine Village this year too.

With all the drinks you can dream of, from a classic Baileys hot chocolate, to a festive cocktail of your dreams, Bar Hütte is a must visit to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Capture the festive moments in the super cute photo-booth or just enjoy the tasty food and drinks and get your own pics!

You can enjoy allll the Xmas shenanigans from the 11th November, with bookings already open, we reckon this ones gonna pop off.

5. Bongo’s Bingo

If you’ve never heard of Bongo’s Bingo, and you’re a student in Liverpool, have you been living under a rock?

Forget how you’d usually imagine bingo to be, this experience is on another level. 

It’s a crazy mix of traditional bingo, dance offs and rave intervals, this is an event that is sure to get your hearts racing and voices breaking!

However, this Bongo’s Bingo has a Christmassy twist we didn’t even know we needed.

Get your best Christmas outfit on and book yourself onto one of the best Christmas events in the city.

6. The Light Before Christmas: The Angels are Coming

Head to the Liverpool Cathedral if you want to watch the festive light and sound show which is inspired by the story of the first Christmas.

Expect to be captivated by the display of lights, projections and stunning music inside the City’s Cathedral.

This event will bring something different to the festive events in the city, and is taking place from the 2nd until the 9th of December.

If you’re someone who loves the nativity story and perhaps you liked the River of Light illuminated gallery, we’re sure you’ll love this event.

Tickets start at just a mere £8.50, the perfect price if you’re looking for cheap festive fun!

The experience lasts around 40 minutes but tickets must be booked in advance, so head on over to Ticket Quarter to get yours sorted.

7. Enchanted At Knowsley Safari Park

Ready to turn your festive season into the magical Christmas you’ve always dreamed of? If so, book a trip to Enchanted at Knowsley Safari Park!

This animal light trail is the ultimate Christmas experience, with music, festive food, tasty treats and a joyous atmosphere! 

The light trail begins on the 19th November and will continue all the way up to the 30th December.

There rides will be open too if you’re a thrill-seeker like us, why not take a night ride?!

Plus, adult tickets are only £11 each – what a bargain!

8. Christmas at Delamere Forest

Okay so Delamere Forest may be in Cheshire, but it’s so close to Liverpool we just had to include it!

When the sun sets, this majestic woodland becomes a haven of illuminations! Be dazzled by the twinkling lights and listen to the seasonal sounds that’ll engulf you as you stroll through. 

There’s even a selection of toasted marshmallows, delicious hot choco’s and spiced winter warmers, the perfect treat! 

Taking place from 25th November until 31st December you’ve certainly got plenty of time to get in the festive spirit.

Prices for adults are £21, a little more expensive than other events for Christmas in Liverpool but totally worth it!

9. Elf: A Christmas Arena Spectacular

If you’re someone who loves Christmas films as much as we do, why not get yourself to the M&S Bank Arena and book tickets for Elf?

Arguably one of the most popular Christmas films of all time, Elf is a magical film and coming alive in a stage show is exactly what you need to see!

Expect a huge stage featuring amazing film backdrops, Santa’s flying sleigh, an audience snowball fight, indoor snowstorm, a giant candy cane journey from the North Pole, and giant tv screens!

It may be ranked as a magical family Christmas experience, but it’s honestly a student’s dream if you ask us.

Sadly, it’s only on from the 3rd until the 4th of December so you need to be quick if you wanna get a ticket!

Prices vary depending on where you choose to sit, but they start at £25 so it’s on the more expensive side of things.

10. A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas

Last, but certainly not least for students spending Christmas in Liverpool, head to St George’s Hall to embark on your very own Christmas Carol journey!

This much-loved classic is being brought to life for the stage from the 19th until the 23rd December 2022, so choose to visit here for an evening full of festivities, live music and performances by talented actors and musicians.

Did you know Charles Dickens himself graced the Concert Hall stage numerous times to read his books? Wow!

It’s honestly not one to miss, so make sure to book now to avoid disappointment.
