Parks In Leeds You Need To Visit Whilst Here For Uni

Name something better than taking a stroll around a park in the crisp Autumn weather, wrapped up warm with a woolly hat, scarf and gloves? Hard – right?

There’s just something so tranquil about getting outside of your student accommodation, away from all the fuss of deadlines, no matter what weather!

Whilst living in Leeds for uni, you’re blessed with a variety of different parks and scenic areas right next to your accommodation!

We’ve done our research and gathered a list of our top parks in Leeds you need to visit!

1. Roundhay Park

Covering over 700 acres of parkland, lakes and woodland, Roundhay Park is one of the biggest in the whole of Europe. What’s better? It’s right on your doorstep!

With nearly a million visitors every year, this is a popular park amongst locals, students and tourists!

When it comes to looking for things to do here, you’ll never be stuck for ideas…

Not only is it a fantastic place for walking, running or even meeting your pals, they are the proud home of Tropical Park, Leeds’ most loved Zoo! 

So, if you’re feeling like spotting a Meerkat in its enclosure, or watching the fish swim by in the aquarium, this should defo be on your bucket list whilst at uni.

Aside from this attraction, Roundhay Park has playgrounds, a skate park and sports pitches ( football, rugby, cricket, tennis, grass cycling track)…what’s not to love?

We guarantee you won’t just be visiting here on a one off, its one of those parks in Leeds you just won’t be able to get out of!

‘Had a fantastic walk around Roundhay Park today in the sunshine and even stopped for Yorkshire Ice cream. Lovely to see that the lake has been cleaned up since our last visit and it is a brilliant gem in the city! Would highly recommend it!’

2. Temple Newsam

Being home to one of the finest historic houses in the region, Temple Newsam is a must visit whilst here for university. 

Stretching over 1500 acres of parkland, there’s SO much to explore here, whether it be on your own or with your new flatmates.

The gardens have been landscaped by the famous 18th century gardener – Capability Brown –  you’re bound to fall in love (we promise!). 

If you’re looking to explore the home, you can at just a small price of £7.25 – what a bargain!

Increase it to £10.30 if you’re interested in popping to the conservation farm. An animal lover’s dream, if you’re asking us!

‘Brilliant place to take the dogs, with plenty of routes to take you can make the walk as long or as short as you need. Unlike Roundhay park, Temple Newsam doesn’t get as crowded so I prefer it. Overall a brilliant place to go!’

‘Temple Newsam is a really beautiful place. The farm is great and always has been and the playground inside of the farm is really good and well kept. The whole grounds are always well kept and there are plenty of walks that can be had around the grounds. A beautiful area of Leeds 👌’

3. Woodhouse Moor

Situated right in the heart of Leeds city centre, Woodhouse Moor will be your neighbour during your time at uni (if you choose to go with one of our central Leeds student properties!)

It’s a tree-lined community space with sports fields, tennis courts and a playground for you to enjoy.

The area is fantastic for scenic walks, a quick picnic, or even a snowball fight in the winter months. C’mon, who DOESN’T love a good snowball fight?

All in all, this park may not have much in terms of its predecessors in this list, but it’s a stunning walk and you’re guaranteed to feel relaxed after a busy day of uni!

4. Beckett Park

Beckett Park is Leeds’ residential area, bordering Headingley, West Park and Kirkstall. 

It was named after Ernest Beckett, the 2nd Baron Grimthorpe (if you have an interest in history, you’ll probs have a little clue who this is!)

Again, this park is small, but extremely mighty! 

There’s lots of grass for you to relax, especially in the summer months when you’re able to grab a picnic blanket and read your fave book.

What makes this park even better is its location. Being right next to Leeds Beckett University campus, you can take a leisurely stroll here between lectures…what’s not to love?

5. Park Square

Park Square is a traditional Georgian park, located in Leeds’ financial quarter!

It’s surrounded by a plethora of Georgian buildings, which are occupied by business offices.

The grassy area is a serene place to sit and relax, whilst being surrounded by foliage and blooming trees.
