Coventry is a nightlife heaven for students keen for a good time whilst studying here. If you’re wondering what the best nightclubs and late night venues are to hit up during freshers, you’ve come to the right place.

There are over 60,000 students enrolled at both the Coventry University and The University of Warwick so, you’ll have so many people to meet and make friends with on nights out – how fab is that!

1. Kasbah Nightclub

Kasbah is one of the best nightclubs and live music hubs, not only in Coventry, but within the UK.

This independent venue has been on the nightlife scene for over a decade with students and locals loving the after dark action here.  It’s practically a rite of passage to go here!

They’ve had the likes of Calvin Harris, La Roux, Arctic Monkeys and N-Dubz play on their stage – wow! We’ve heard through the grapevine that Wiley may be making an experience in the near future so, keep your eyes peeled.

Aside from regular events, you can party it up during the week at regular club nights from Bubbleluv on Mondays to Kinky on Fridays to Tricky Disco on Saturdays.

There’s 3 floors to explore and drinks prices are fairly cheap, it’s a must for freshers week!

2. JJ’s

JJ’s has been a top choice for nightlife lovers in Coventry for over 10 years, and students who’ve just moved to the city are in for a real treat.

The regular club nights here are every Friday and Saturday, but they also do a range of exciting events, their freshers programme is perfect for a groove!

You can expect dance music and popular chart music playing, although it does depend on the event.

This venue also offers more of a luxurious nightclub experience with VIP booths, premium drinks available and rentable rooms so, if you want to celebrate a special occasion with your pals you can bring the party here!

We should let you know; they do have a dress code which requires no trainers or sportswear so make sure if you’re planning a night out here to look the part.

3. HMV Empire

The HMV Empire is an award-winning nightlife and live-music venue in Coventry City Centre.

If it’s an evening of a few bevvies with friends at a gig or a full-on night-out, this place has you sorted.

The venue capacity is 900 so you’ll meet tons of like-minded people within the student community with their main room, balcony, and bar area to explore!

You can experience events such as Club Tropicana or Shake It Off 2010s Party this fresher’s week, or any other time you fancy a boogie.

Let’s not forget, there’s so many amazing artists which have performed here like Ed Sheeran, The Vaccines, Sam Fender and The Libertines so surely you can expect to see some big names on the line-up whilst you’re a student here!

4. Catch Twenty-Two

Get your dancing shoes unpacked cos’ this place offers an unreal nightlife experience!

Catch Twenty-Two is a chic lounge and nightclub located in the heart of the city centre with live music, live performances and various weekly events.

Each event is different so regardless of your music taste, there’s amazing tunes for everyone.

Despite being new on the nightlife scene within Coventry this place is a fab nightclub. You can dance the night away on their groovy dancefloor under the disco ball, which makes the perfect insta pic for freshers!

The multi-use venue is open 6 days a week, so you’ll always have a place to party it up with your flatmates (except on Sunday’s).

5. 147 Nightclub

Located just a 3-minute walk from Coventry University is 147 nightclub, previously known as Scholars.

This place has a great club atmosphere, being one of the longest-running nightclubs for students living in the West Midlands.

They offer a range of events from club nights to quiz nights to bingo sessions, so no matter what your idea of fun is, we’re sure they’ll accommodate.

When it comes to nightlife, resident DJs spin the best chart toppers, indie classics and throwback tunes for everyone to sing their heart out.

147 is open till late every weekend and offer happy hour drinks deals. Not to mention, they offer free entry with a student card before midnight so forget about paying for entry (we live for some money saving tips).

6. Boom Battle Bar

If you’re after a different nightlife experience whilst living in Coventry, you really need to make a visit to the Boom Battle Bar for a great night!

You’ll find this place just a 3-minute walk from Coventry Cathedral, it’s super easy to find!

Why not play a few games with your new pals? You can choose from Axe Throwing, Crazier Golf, Augmented Reality Darts, Beer Pong and Shuffleboard!

Their drinks options are just too good with spirits, cocktails, beer buckets (yep, really) and mocktails available along with so much more.

If you get hungry, they have bar bites like chicken wings, tater tots and loaded hot-dogs for a late-night treat!

They’re open till 2am on the weekend so it’s the perfect place for those looking for a place to chat and have some fun.

7. Dhillon’s Spire Bar

Dhillon’s Spire Bar is an award-winning bar and brewery located in a former church spire on New Union Street.

If you’re searching for some evening entertainment whilst studying in Coventry, add this one to your list.

This place is full of character with both indoor and outdoor seating offering a lovely atmosphere, as well as exciting events like quiz nights and comedy nights.

Sip on a mixture of signature cocktails whilst having a chit chat with your mates and if you get hungry, enjoy some Indian street food.

It’s open till 1am every Friday and Saturday with live music and DJs playing a vast array of songs to get you in the mood!

8. Glamorous

Glamorous is one of the largest LGBQTI+ bars and nightclubs in Coventry with three floors of fun to experience.

This friendly bar has a programme of fun events which feature national and international drag artists, resident DJs and student nights.

They offer a range of cheap drinks with a 2-4-1 deal until late every day, you’ve gotta make the most of that!

Not to mention, they’re open seven days a week until 6am so you can dance till the sun comes up to a variety of music!

If you don’t fancy dancing, you can head to their pool room or chill-out lounge for a good night of getting to know new people.

Whilst this is a welcoming space for all, please remember that when visiting gay bars as a student that you should be an accepting and supportive ally to the community.

9. The Botanist

When it comes to a more relaxed nightlife vibe in Coventry, The Botanist should be your first point of call.

Located In Cathedral Lanes, this bar offers 2 for £12 cocktails and a range of refreshing juice boosts for any none-drinkers.

The interior is just so pretty so you can get super cute pictures with your new friends during freshers’ week!

They also have live music taking you into the early hours on the weekend so why not try it out?! It’s a must for late night drinkers.

10. Cosy Club

Lastly within our guide is Cosy Club on Broadgate, this glamorous bar is a must for students looking to experience Coventry’s nightlife action.

You can have a tipple with their huge range of drinks including cocktails, gins, vodkas, wine, beer and ciders.

Don’t worry, they also offer some tasty none-alcoholic drinks too so everyone can enjoy.

The interior of this place is amazing with a jazz vibe and the best part is, they’re open till 1am on Friday’s and Saturday’s so you can start the weekend off in style with your friends.

Afterwards you can head home to your student flat without having to mooch too far!
