What a way to kick off this positive month by listing the best uplifting movies you need to watch? Like seriously, pop yourself on the sofa and grab the remote because you’re in for a right treat here!

According to the online dictionary, uplifting means inspiring happiness, optimism, or hope’. So, it’s a feel-good film with a captivating storyline, which will make you want to get up and be a better person!

Who can complain? Sometimes we all need to watch films like these to boost our mood and make us feel good about ourselves.

1. Rain Man (1998)

Rain Man is a 1988 classic starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, and our first of many uplifting movies.

Overall, the synopsis is centred around two brothers – Raymond and Charlie. 

Charlie is a cold-hearted individual who sets out to manipulate his autistic brother to give up his late father’s inheritance. However, as Charlie comes to realise, it may not be as easy as that…

Rain Man is an extremely touching movie which will certainly open your eyes to the world of Autism.

The friendship that develops between the two is captivating and we’re sure you’re going to feel a whole sense of happiness watching this. 

2. Legally Blonde (2001)

Elle Woods. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

What an iconic queen! If you haven’t heard of her then get to know, them ‘cos her determination and willpower throughout the movie will inspire you during your time at uni. 

At first glance, you expect this movie to follow the life of Elle (Reese Witherspoon), a ditzy blonde who has the ‘sorority girl’ lifestyle only found in the movies. However, as the film goes on, you’ll realise that she is much more than that. 

When her boyfriend breaks up with her for a smarter girl, Elle dedicates the next weeks and months of her life to get into Harvard Law School. Proving him wrong is the one thing on her mind, but in reality, she finds so much out about herself she never even knew.

Up there with uplifting movies, you need to see during Happiness Happens Month 2023! 

3. School of Rock (2003)

Ever dreamt of being a Rock Star as a child? Well, this movie certainly will make you reminisce.

You don’t even have to follow rock and roll to watch this film; it’s just so good that it will make you want to pick up your headphones, pop Spotify on and blast AC/DC!

School of Rock follows the life of Dewey Finn (Jack Black), who has very little to care for in his life. 

That is until he finds himself accepting a substitute teacher job (meant for his bestie, Ned) in a local school to earn some cash. 

Little does he know the kids he meets here will inevitably turn his life around for good. 

If you ever watched this film as a child, you’re bound to have dreamt of having Jack Black as your substitute teacher…like, how cool would that have been?!

A must-see if you want a feel-good film this Happiness Happens Month 2023. 

4. The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (2013)

If you’re after a heartwarming film to watch this month, make sure to add The Secret Life of Walter Mitty to your streaming list.

The plot follows Walter Mitty, played by Ben Stiller, a regular guy with an extraordinary imagination that helps him escape the monotony of his everyday life.  

You really can’t help but have a feel-good feeling when watching this film, with its amazing storyline, cinematography and soundtrack. 

It’s all about overcoming fears, trying something new, and not listening to what other people want you to be!

5. Love Actually (2003)

A top rom-com to binge during Happiness Happens month! Love is an all-time Christmas classic (again we know it’s summer please don’t hate us) and is loved by all. 

Try finding someone who doesn’t feel all warm and fuzzy inside after watching this, because we sure can’t.

There are 10 separate storylines within this movie, each of which will take you on a journey of love, laughter and positivity.

6. Mamma Mia! (2008)

Would it be a list of uplifting movies without a musical? We had to throw one in there and, out of some strong contenders, Mamma Mia took the top spot.

Set in the beautiful islands of Greece, this vibrant musical will make you want to hop online and book a trip away. Especially considering we’ve been stuck in lockdown for months on end </3

The tale begins as Sophie’s wedding day is fast approaching and she decides she wants to invite her father. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be THAT easy – she has three men it could be and no DNA testing insight.

Prepare to sing, laugh and cry at this wonderful movie! 

7. Forrest Gump (1994)

When it comes to uplifting films to watch for Happiness Happens Month 2023, there’s no better than Forrest Gump.

An absolute classic, this uplifting film that captures the heartwarming journey of a kind-hearted man named Forest Gump, played by Tom Hanks.

Forrest who since childhood was considered stupid with a low IQ has a unique life story and finds himself in the middle of key historical events.

8. 13 Going On 30 (2004)

Are you a big fan of heartwarming rom-coms? Well good news, so are we! 

Starring Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo, 13 Going On 30, tells the story of Jenna Rink, a 13-year-old girl who makes an unusual wish on her birthday, to be 30. 

Miraculously, her wish comes true and the 13-year-old Jenna wakes up the next day as a 30-year-old woman – yep, really. 

If you’re looking for the perfect film for a gals night, this sweet movie is definitely it so get the popcorn ready…

9. Hairspray (2007)

Next up on our list of the best uplifting films is none other than Hairspray.

Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, Hairspray stars huge names like Zac Efron, John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nikki Blonksy.

Set in the 1960s, this heartwarming film tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, an overweight teenager who turns into a television superstar.

Tracy’s journey is interrupted when she becomes a victim of racial discrimination and decides to fight back.

You’re sure to be singing and dancing along to the soundtrack!

10. Good Will Hunting (1997)

Good Will Hunting is an Oscar winning drama which launched the careers of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and also stars the late Robin Williams.

 

This touching film follows Will Hunting, a genius in mathematics, who can solve any difficult mathematical problem.

 

When he faces an emotional crisis and struggles with his identity, he takes help from psychiatrist Dr Sean Maguireto, who helps him recover.

 

There really are so many life lessons in this film, so be sure to give it a watch!
