Formerly known as District, this venue on Above Bar Street has undergone a major £500,000 refurbishment and reopened in September 2025 under the name Circuit. Featuring state-of-the-art sound systems and lighting setups, the experience that Circuit provides is on a par with some of the best clubs in the UK. The biggest nights are Friday and Saturday, with two rooms opening up for some of the wildest evenings in Southampton. With free entry before 11pm at weekends, it is a brilliant option for students looking for a great night out without breaking the bank.

Orange Rooms

Orange Rooms is open every day of the week and is the place to be for a quiet pint, a big birthday bash or a standard party night out. It caters for everyone. An independently owned bar and cocktail lounge in the heart of Southampton’s Bedford Place, it has been one of the city’s most beloved venues since it opened in 2001. Spread across multiple themed spaces including the tropical Tiki Lounge and the alpine-inspired Off Piste room, the cocktail menu and atmosphere are unlike anything else in the city.

Buddha Lounge

Buddha Lounge is a fantastic venue to visit with your friends, open until 3am every Wednesday to Saturday. It has an in-house DJ who plays the finest rhythms for your enjoyment. Even if you are not a football fan, it is difficult to escape the fact that Southampton Football Club is a huge deal in the city. It is worth a visit to experience St Mary’s Stadium, where Championship football is played every week. If you are a student aged between 18 and 21, you may even spy some cheap tickets for certain fixtures.

For cricket lovers, the Utilita Bowl is the venue you want to visit. One of the finest cricket grounds in the country, you can grab tickets to see some of the top teams in the world play here. It is a superb day out in the sunshine and is well worth putting in your diary.

Living on the south coast means that you are a stone’s throw away from some amazing countryside and coastal walks. This modern building is home to an abundance of shops and dining areas for you to enjoy. Who does not love the theatre? Especially after a busy day at university, there is nothing better than relaxing in front of a real stage production. When studying here, you need to visit the Mayflower. You can experience touring West End musicals, dance, comedy, live music, opera and plays. The venue itself is magnificent, so expect performances to match.
