It’s only right to start this list with the most notable thing about Huddersfield… it’s rugby league!
As we mentioned, this market town is the birthplace of the rugby league with the local team, Huddersfield Giants, playing in the Super League.
The stadium is also home to Huddersfield Town Football Club, otherwise known as The Terriers who compete in the Championship.
Whilst studying here, you need to experience a match day at The John Smith’s Stadium.
The atmosphere for both rugby and football games is immense, and there’s even award winning food and drink on offer at the venue!
More so, it’s worth checking out the events programme for the venue as it’s quite often home to huge live music events.

2. Get A Cultural Fix At Huddersfield Gallery
If you’re on the hunt for free things to do in Huddersfield town centre then we urge you to take a trip to Huddersfield Gallery.
Currently located inside Piazza Shopping Centre whilst refurbishments take place, you can take a walk around vibrant temporary exhibitions and learn more about the history and culture of this market town.
The temporary location inside Unit 7 doesn’t quite compare to the iconic Huddersfield Library and Art Gallery building, but you can still enjoy the best of British art.

3. Enjoy The Greenery
Considering Huddersfield is located in the foothills of the Pennines, there are so many green spaces for you to explore and take time to unwind whilst living here.
Beaumont Park is Huddersfield’s oldest public park located just outside of the town centre.
This Victorian park offers 20 acres of greenery for you to explore, with ornate features, cascades, grottos, steep cliffs and a stunning woodland which is perfect in the sunny months.
Another notable green space within Huddersfield is Greenhead Park, one the largest parks within the town.
Located a short walk from the town centre, take some time to relax and appreciate the landscaped gardens and lakes.

4. Visit Castle Hill
Castle Hill is a scheduled ancient monument in Almondbury, a short bus ride away from the heart of the town centre.
This popular attraction was developed as an iron age hill fort and has 4,000 years worth of history.

5. Have A Drink At Magic Rock Brewing
Let’s face it, it wouldn’t be a guide to things to do for students without mentioning the best spot to grab a drink now would it?
If you’re looking for the perfect boozy hangout to head to with your flatmates then you need to take a visit to Magic Rock Brewing.
You’ll find this 4,000sq ft taproom outside of the town centre, just a 10 minute walk from Huddersfield Train Station.
With a roomy wood-accented interior, the vibe at this place is unmatched.
