Table of Contents

As a student breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and in South Yorkshire they certainly know how to put on a good morning spread to set you up for the day ahead!

Thankfully, our luxury student accommodation, Straits Manor, is in the city centre so you’re in the heart of the action, close to all the best breakfast Sheffield has to offer.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to grab a full English breakfast, somewhere to grab a coffee and some pastries, or somewhere to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings, there’s cafes in this city to suit all.

Let’s look at some of the best cafés for breakfast in Sheffield that you need to get involved with!

1. Steam Yard

You don’t have to go far for one of the best places for breakfast in Sheffield.

Steam Yard has a beautiful courtyard setting with eat in or takeaway options and is literally round the corner from your student flat!

It’s a trendy café with friendly service, a big selection of pastries and coffees, and all within the setting of an old silverworks that is now a Grade II listed building.

Sit with friends and enjoy a ‘cro-nut’, a croissant, a bagel with a range of fillings (the smoked Applewood cheese and honey bagel is a big winner!)

It’s the donuts that people come here for though, and we’re not gonna tell you that you can’t have a donut for breakfast.

Come for the coffee and a donut for £3 deal and leave happy.

2. Tamper Coffee

Plugging into Kiwi café culture in South Yorkshire, this is another one of the best options for breakfast in Sheffield.

It has a rustic interior that is very welcoming and cosy, helping you to feel like you are miles away from the hustle and bustle of city centre life here on Westfield Terrace.

The all-day menu features a few classic breakfast dishes with a twist.

The Turkish eggs are astounding, whilst you can also order your staple avo on toast, a few different styles of egg dish, or even just some French toast if you’re after a bit of sweet to start your day.

The best part? It’s just a leisurely 10-minute walk from Straits Manor.

3. The Cabin

Pancakes and waffles! What more do you need to know about The Cabin, one of the finest breakfast Sheffield has to offer you.

It is a relaxed, Canadian breakfast experience, serving up breakfasts to those of you who have a sweet tooth and desire good coffee, bacon, maple syrup, pancakes and waffles first thing in the morning.

The beauty of the cabin is you have free rein to choose whatever toppings you want to go with your base.

So, feel free to top your waffle with chocolate sauce, strawberries, banana, chocolate chip, Nutella, whipped cream, whatever you want for breakfast!

There are also some delightful bagels packed with delicious fillings if you can’t decide how to stack up your waffles and pancakes this morning.

Make sure to take a visit!

4. The Grind Café

With two locations in Sheffield, The Grind Café has plenty of experience and awards to back it up as one of the best breakfast locations in Sheffield.

The Kelham Island location in particular is spectacular, an atmospheric setting that dates back to the 1100s and showcases the industrial heritage of the city.

The menu is extensive and covers all your breakfast needs, with your standard ‘eggs your way’ on toast, Turkish eggs, alongside smoked salmon and avo croissant, pancakes with a whole host of tasty toppings, granola with fresh fruit and yoghurt, and many more breakfast dishes to salivate over.

It’s not just us who rave about the brekkie here, this independent eatery is award-winning so make sure to check it out!

5. Made by Jonty

Although a little out of the city centre, Made by Jonty is a breakfast establishment that has been ‘wowing’ the brunch crowd of Sheffield for well over a decade.

The exposed kitchen shows you the hard work going on to create delicious dishes that keep you going for the day ahead, with the wood tables and oak beams creating a welcoming atmosphere for you to share with a group of good friends.

Eggs Benedict, Florentine, and Royale sit proudly on the menu, but we’d recommend going for the really filling breakfast burrito for something a little different.

You can also build your own brekkie from scratch, so pile up those hash browns, slices of bacon and halloumi.

If you’re after something tasty to fill you up before studying, we urge you to take a visit.

6. HowSt Café

Right on Howard Street, close to Sheffield Hallam University, you’ll find this treat of a little cute café, HowSt.

It’s a relaxed atmosphere for somewhere that does get quite busy (you can sometimes wait a while to be seated but it’s worth it).

All your traditional full English breakfast needs are met, alongside big veggie breakfast options, poached, fried, or scrambled eggs on toast, smashed avo on toast, loaded bagels, toasted ciabattas if you are staying here through till lunch.

It is your friendly neighbourhood café that will quickly become the place you look forward to going to most days and get to know the staff well.

We all like to find somewhere like that when we move to a new city and HowSt does not disappoint.
