Sheffield has certainly blossomed in the last few years and has shaken off its industrial past to become a truly modern city that has a great combination of urban charm, exciting opportunities and great nature nearby. After significant redevelopment, new students find a city centre that has a contemporary design aesthetic at every turn, but with a third of the city located within the boundaries of the Peak District there are plenty of open and green spaces to enjoy such as Peace Gardens and the Millennium Galleries as well as the Winter Garden based in the middle of the city centre.
The vast majority of Sheffield students get around the city either on foot or bike, making it an environmentally friendly city that is low on cost. This is an enticing combination for students of any background. It is the right size to feel like you are living in a big city, but where a real community exists for you to become a part. For those looking for great connections with the rest of the country, Sheffield has great train routes to London and the South, as well as routes throughout the Midlands, and north to Manchester and up to Scotland.
If you are looking to delve into the music scene in Sheffield, the Leadmill offers live music and a nightclub for you to dance the night away, with plenty of other interesting bar and club options in the city centre such as Crystal, Walkabout & Viper Rooms. For sport, there is everything from ice skating to rock climbing and plenty of parks to take part in communal sports or solitary pursuits such as running. If you love watching sports why not head to Bramall Lane or Hillsborough to watch Sheffield United or Wednesday respectively.Straits Manor
